The story

The Same Forest. A New Material.

Every Vernay collection begins in the sustainably managed forests of France.
French Fir extends that philosophy beyond oak, bringing exceptional old-growth French Douglas Fir to contemporary Australian architecture.

Slow-grown over generations and responsibly harvested, every board reflects the character, stability and authenticity that only time can create.
Whether specified for coastal homes, rural retreats or contemporary residences, French Fir delivers natural warmth with enduring performance.

OLD-GROWTH FRENCH DOUGLAS FIR

FRENCH-GROWN | PEFC CERTIFIED

why french fir

Naturally Different.

  • French-Grown

Responsibly sourced from sustainably managed forests in France, where generations of careful forestry produce timber of exceptional consistency and character.

  • Old-Growth

Slow growth creates tighter grain, greater dimensional stability and a rich natural appearance that cannot be replicated by fast-grown plantation timber.

  • PEFC Certified

Every board is sourced through independently certified sustainable forestry, providing complete confidence in environmental responsibility and traceability.

  • Concealed-Fix System

A refined concealed-fix profile creates uninterrupted architectural façades with no visible fasteners, allowing the timber itself to become the defining feature.

  • Australian Clinics

Treated to comply with Australian building codes and designed to perform across Australia's diverse environments, from coastal humidity to inland heat.

The conical interlocking rebate profile creates a clean 6mm shadow gap with a 5mm expansion pocket between each board. The 15° conical bevel allows boards to lock firmly into place while accommodating seasonal timber movement. Stainless steel screws are driven at 30° through the 13mm nailing tongue into vertical battens at 600mm centres (400mm in coastal high-wind zones) — no face fasteners, no visible fixings. The timber becomes the architecture.
